| KONA UPDATE #1 |
|
Makin’ my way to Kona aboard Hawaiian Airlines (the fastest travel option for those who don’t like flying…apart from being escorted by some US Airforce F18 or simlar). I did ask Jeff the possibility of this to lessen my flying time but we decided the cost of the exercise was a little, shall we say, out of our budget!
So far so good. I think my chat with a lady that Jeff works with, Rob and her husband who have been flying for years as a hostess and pilot have relaxed my nerves somewhat. I did take the precaution however, to have my Ambien prescription filled and decided to down them if it go too roughJ I have a man sitting next to me who has a couple of kids, so he is probably used to tantrums etc!!!
The lady in front of me just put her seat back as far as she could, pushing my laptop into my stomach….good times in coach! Luckily I packed a few snacks for the flight as for lunch we were offered a breakfast burrito (it was hard to tell what it was) and a chocolate muffin….mmm…maybe on the way home :)
The last few days was just a matter of double checking all my packing that I had done the weekend before and gradually added things to and the most important, getting my bike packed and wheels glued up. Fortunately my friend and Bike Butler friend, Matt Hoffman came over to show me how to pack my bike in this new travel bag I bought for it. He said it was easy as he packed and as I glued up my tyres and wheels and half of one hand, we then zipped it up and job done.
A final massage from fellow Aussie, Simone Wiloweic (ex Australian race walker and just nice chick) to get my body relaxed and ready to go and I was set, bags in the car to leave in the morning.
When we came out to leave this morning my neighbours had attached a Goodluck balloon to my car and a couple of big cardboard posters they had written/drawn all over for me….it was an awesome surprise, nice way to start the day and trip and get the heart going.
I will try and keep this updated as much as I can whilst in Kona but don’t expect anything 2-3days before the race and if I do post something, it will be by chance.
Last night I skyped with my sister, Emma as she laid on the couch, looking just as stunning as someone who feels like death warmed up can. I told her she will feel great on race day as I don’t ever want to feel the morning sickness she has had EVER AGAIN!
My friend Kim McDonald informed me that the race was going to be live on the Universal sports channel. I am not sure if that is correct, so blame Kim if it isn’t! All is good for now, will report back later….gotta go to the bathroom before the seatbelt sign has a chance of coming on. I think I did a PB (or PR) last time I went! |
